Terms of Service

API Central is an API management platform managed and supported by the Enterprise Integration Services (EIS) team in Berkeley IST's department of Architecture, Platforms, and Integration. By using API Central or any API presented on it, you are agreeing to be bound by the following terms and conditions.

For API Providers

API Central manages access to APIs through explicit plans. You must complete a plan, and its appropriateness is your sole responsibility. An access plan adds an additional layer of security on top of the security measures internal to the API itself but does not replace them. Security for the API remains your sole responsibility. In addition, monitoring API usage and initiating throttling actions as required is your responsibility.

You agree to collaborate with the EIS team in establishing and maintaining access to your API through the API Central platform.

You should provide terms of service and a privacy policy accessible through the API's documentation. You are responsible for all aspects of the API, and for providing all customer support to end-users relating to the API.

For API Consumers

API Central provides easy, reliable access to APIs using credentials supplied by the Integration team. You must obtain and use such credentials in accordance with these terms. You agree that you will be solely responsible to API Central for your use. If you become aware of any unauthorized use of your credentials or your account, you agree to delete the credentials and notify API Central immediately. Issues concerning your account or credentials and access to the portal can be resolved with the help of the support team.

You can depend on access to APIs that are defined as production-ready by providers, but not all APIs available through the portal will be production-ready. Issues regarding API availability and the quality and consistency of the data returned should be taken up with the API Provider.

You acknowledge and agree that API Providers may impose or adjust the limit on the number of transactions you may send or receive through API Central; such fixed upper limits may be set by API Providers at any time, at their discretion. You agree not to use an API in a manner that exceeds reasonable request volume or constitutes excessive or abusive usage, and not to attempt to circumvent any security measures or technical limitations of the API. You agree not to modify, decompile, extend, subset or superset an API or otherwise alter an API to any extent.

You agree not to cache or store any data supplied via an API for longer than 7 days, and not to use, distribute, or sell such data for the purpose of advertising targeting of any kind.

For All API Central Users

You may not use API Central and any API presented on it for any illegal or unauthorized purposes. You must not, in the use of API Central or any API presented on it, violate any laws in your jurisdiction (including but not limited to privacy, copyright, or trademark laws), and you must not attempt to circumvent any security measures or technical limitations of API Central or any API presented on it. You must not use API Central or any API presented on it in any way that harms the interests of UC Berkeley, the portal site, any of its affiliates, the API or its program, or other users of the website.

Violation of any of the terms or conditions listed here will result in the termination of your access to API Central.

Support

The service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. The team supports both API Providers and Consumers in their use of API Central during normal business hours (M-F, 8 am - 5 pm PST). See Contact Us for how to access support.
